Trusting the infallible love of God. Part I

God’s solemn promise and unbreakable commitment to His children is His unfailing love. As sons and daughters of God, we are in a covenant relationship with Him. God Himself is the initiator and the executor of this covenant. Nothing can void it. And in all His truthfulness, might and wisdom, God has personally sealed this covenant with the immutable - the blood of His Son. He has, thus, forever, forestalled the annulment of this covenant. Wholly enveloped and protected in Him from whom no foe can assail, in His unfailing love, mercy, kindness and grace, He is relentlessly pursuing and chasing after us with this covenant, because through His Holy Spirit, He wants to do His good pleasure in us. He is the initiator and the executor of this covenant of love.

His plans for us are altogether good. And “His banner over” us “is LOVE.” When we are troubled, when we are down, when we are discouraged, even when we are weak, when we are in trouble, His unfailing love, expressed in His grace, mercy, kindness, and goodness are right there to help, encourage, comfort, and support us. No person, no economic policy, no world order, no satanic power, no troubling circumstance; absolutely “nothing in all creation” can disturb, hold back or overwhelm that love. Not even our natures’ waywardness. But we must yield our desires to Him so that He can ably perfect “all that concern us” in all of our lives’ facets. God will “guide *(us) me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.” Psalms 23:3. *Bracket mine.

You can join millions all over the world today and begin “right away” to trust this infallible love of God for your needs “to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein he has made us *(you) accepted in the Beloved." (Ephesians 1.6). TO BE CONTINUED.

Have you yet asked Him for your share of His eternal pardon?

On Him was laid the weights and guilt of all humanity’s sins – yours and mine. There at Calvary, Jesus Christ atoned for ALL our sins - past, present and future. There He obtained for us an eternal pardon and forever reconciled us with God. “We were by nature objects of (God’s) wrath”. Ephesians 2:3 (my word in bracket).

Stop and think! He took our place, and died for our sins. Jesus Christ received a fitting punishment – death sentence on the cross - for our sins. Thus, He there obtained and reserved an eternal salvation for us.

If He has no place yet in your life, can you let Him in today? My friend, simply acknowledge the truth: you have sinned. Will you humbly confess them and ask God to forgive you? He will forgive you. That is all it takes! Then, ask Him for your share of His eternal pardon, with its associated blessings, already reserved for you. “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3

He will impute His righteousness on you and, forever, He will cover your iniquities. Psalms 32:1 Thus, you will be saved and kept for His glory. He will sustain you daily by His all transcending power. And as you pray and read His Word – the bible, God will continually nurture you in His ever-increasing love and mercies, preserving you for Himself, and “every good works” to others.

But If you neglect this free salvation, and your life on earth, is in any way, ended , there will be no opportunity for you again, forever, to be reconciled with God. Regrettably, you will be separated from God, and damned into torturous hell where you will stay with Satan and his workers in "endless" eternity. What a horror?

So, my friend, you may ask for your share of His eternal pardon today. “But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:8-9.

Following is a music link that greatly reinforces the contentment that comes with awareness that we have been reconciled to God:

	Great is Thy mercy, boundless and free;

Now in my weakness, seeking Thy favor,

Lord, I am coming closer to Thee.

	Blessèd Redeemer, wonderful Savior,

Fountain of wisdom, Ancient of Days,

Hope of the faithful, Light of all ages,

Jesus my Savior, Thee will I praise.

Blessèd Redeemer, Thou art my Refuge,

	Under Thy watch-care, safe I shall be;

	Gladly adoring, joyfully trusting,

Still I am coming closer to Thee.

	Blessèd Redeemer, gracious and tender,

	New and forever dwell Thou in me;

Thou, my Protector, Shield and Defender,

Draw me and keep me closer to Thee.

For nine weeks during the summer months of July through August 31, 2012, we will run our annual health and wellness project. This year, more than three thousand residents of New York City Bronx’s Community Districts (CD) #3 and #6 will benefit from the project. Thirty Bronx’s youth ages 14 through 21 years will participate. Thus, we will channel their youthful energies into useful community projects when schools are out “and keep them away from the streets and troubles”. We will train and equip them with presentation skills and tools to create awareness of the risk factors for obesity and asthma. And show them how asthma – the Bronx’s worst environmental health hazard – is exacerbated by obesity. We will supervise them to hold workshops and share the knowledge they have gained in the project with others in the community. We will serve free meals to younger children from needy homes, provide them with a healthy, safe and nurturing environment for them to explore their interests and develop skills and creativity. All these will happen when schools are out and their parents are at work. We will involve parents as much as possible in our weekend programs and engage them in classes focused on preparing nutritious meals and shopping for healthy foods on a budget. They will be guided to prepare healthy food menus and participate in live cooking sessions, counseling, computer exercises and nutrition education.

We will muster the efforts of assortment of professionals - registered dieticians, teachers, medical doctors, nurses and other health professionals - to volunteer in the project. They will serve as workshops and seminars’ facilitators and train the summer youth employment workers including other volunteers on an array of program issues and prepare them to directly implement the project’s activities. Our programs director will oversee the execution of the project along with our committed staff members.

In the past we had collaborated with the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), New York City Human Resources Administration, The National Cristina Foundation, Wellcare Inc., The Children Aid Society, South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SOBRO), Word of Life International, and Inspirational Gospel Assembly. They had provided publicity materials, personnel, funding and other resources with which we had implemented the project.

We are seeking involvement of more organizations in New York City and individuals to fund the project this year, particularly, those in food service and health industries. We need sponsors for our health fair, which we will host during the last weekend of the project's activities in August. To donate or fund the project, you may wish to do so via our website or make checks payable to Christ Disciples International, Inc., 1211 Brook Avenue, Bronx, NY 10456. Christ Disciples International Ministries, Inc (CDIM) is a 501 (C) (3) organization; your donations are income tax deductible.
We must shine out from the darkness of insensitivity.

"Feed the hungry! Help those in trouble! Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you shall be as bright as day. And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy you with all good things, and keep you healthy too; and you will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. (TLB, Isaiah 58:10-11)

Can kindness radiate light in the dark corners around us? Jesus said this is possible. And for three weeks now in our congregation, we are showing how.

Jesus said: “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Mathew 5:16

In Luke 10:25-37, He told a story in which he recounted how a traveler, who had been beaten, robbed and left half dead, was assisted by a stranger, while a priest and a Levite were insensitive to the victim’s need of help.

The priest and Levite in the story had the chance to practice what they preached. But they failed to shine. Typically, the priest had vast resource and linkages and might have obtained help for him from his resource. Perhaps, he had to keep some appointments and did not need to be late. Or, it could be that in assisting the victim in person, he might have become ceremonially defiled. But he could have referred the man for help elsewhere.

Also, “a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.” His insensitivity was extreme. Perhaps, he disliked his looks. And it could be that he failed to help because in looking on the traveler, the Levite could not ascertain his social standing or he was too isolated from the public for the Levite’s assistance to be noticed by others and announced. It is written: “If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.” James 2: 8-9.

Also, Jesus taught that our kindness must “exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees.” Matthew 5:20. “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth; they have received their reward in full.” Matthew 6:2.

Do you know someone in need and you are in position to assist? Look around you, and help someone today! We cannot and should not neglect anyone in need. As humans, we are all created in the image of God and we exist to honor God with our lives, whether in private or public.

There is no law against kindness. Galatians 5:23. Be blessed. Emaeyak Ekanem. The following link may also interest you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaCBTSQZq1E

TOGETHER, WE CAN CREATE AN IMPACT AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON OBESITY AND ASTHMA IN OUR COMMUNITY. SEE HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED.

PROJECT GOAL: (1)	To create awareness of the risk factors for asthma, showing the relationship between asthma and obesity and, consequently, to decrease the number of asthma attacks and emergency room visits by 80% among residents of public housings and other residents of the Bronx, particularly the South Bronx. (2)	To teach that obesity is preventable through maintaining a healthy weight via moderate to vigorous regular physical activities and eating sensible portions of healthy foods. (3)	To teach effective control of asthma through a comprehensive plans that address medical management of the disease and avoidance of environmental triggers. (4)	To inspire youth to be concerned about environmental issues and become stewards of the environment.

PROBLEM: ASTHMA AND OBESITY IN THE SOUTH BRONX

Asthma is a serious lung disease. During an asthma attack, the airways get narrow, making it difficult to breath. Asthma has no cure, but it can be controlled. Asthma is a leading cause of long-term illness in children. Its attacks restrict people’s activity and are a leading cause of absences from school and work. In some cases it can result in death. Asthma burden falls disproportionately on the black and Hispanic minorities, especially on minority children. These groups have excessively high rates of poor asthma outcomes, including hospitalizations and deaths. This burden has environmental, socioeconomic, and behavioral causes. An estimated half a million New Yorkers now suffer from this incurable illness, which is more than 6% of the population. But the Bronx County has some of the worst or highest rates of asthma in New York State and the United States - about three times higher than the national average. It is estimated that 20% of the children living in the south Bronx, particularly, have asthma, according to a report by New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.

Asthma may be triggered by allergens and irritants that are common in homes. “We don't know what causes asthma,” so says Jeffrey Klein, State Senator who represents the Bronx. “. But we do know what exacerbates the disease, and it's certainly toxins in the environment like second-hand smoke." In our campaign, we identify asthma triggers and teach risks reduction.

	COMMUNITY

The South Bronx area, in which we will continue the project, is comprised of five community districts. Its total population in 2000 stood at 522,412, which represents about 40% of the population of the whole Bronx. 39% of this population is Black and 60% is Hispanic. This represents a higher percentage of Blacks and Hispanics than resides in the whole Bronx County, the City, and New York State. The percentages of the population that are Black and Hispanic are above Federal guidelines that define minority populations for the purposes of identifying environmental justice issues associated with federal actions.

Along with ethnic, cultural and linguistic diversity are a range of “social and economic problems in the district, namely; low rate of literacy, school drop-out among our youths. The South Bronx, “both in percentage and population, has the highest school drop-out rates of all New York City’s five boroughs…. Roughly, one-third of all South Bronx adults do not have a high school degree. The Bronx County, especially South Bronx, has the lowest labor force participation rate (51.6%) of any county in the country. Fewer than one out of every two residents of the Bronx who are able to work are employed.”

	ACTIVITIES:

In the summer months, youths 11 years and older participate in the program. They are trained to teach residents of public housings, particularly, and other South Bronx residents to identify, eliminate or avoid the environmental triggers of asthma in their homes. They develop materials and conduct recreational activities that focus on controlling asthma and reducing obesity. The summer activities end with a street fair which the participants organize. In the 2011 summer, array of health service providers, such as United Doctors Inc, St. Barnabas Hospital, Wellcare Inc; the New York City Department of Health, and several individuals in the community attended our health fair and shared useful information. Blood pressure and other health screenings were conducted free of charge.

In the summer of 2011, a total of 98,000 literatures on assortment of topics addressing asthma, obesity and other community needs were given out to a total of 3000 people in our community presentations, health fairs, workshops, food distributions and seminars. From pre and post workshops questionnaires, 85% or 2975 of the respondents reported greater awareness of asthma and obesity issues and a readiness for habits and lifestyle changes.

	PROGRAM EXPANSION

We plan to continue this project year-round as follows:

We will run the project for fifteen hours weekly in an after-school sessions (five days weekly) beginning on November 2011. We already have signed a collaboration agreement with the school and intend to reach out to other middle and high schools in the Bronx as feeder schools to recruit 60 -150 students, and their families for the program. We will adopt project-based approach to implement the project. For two hours on weekdays and three hours on weekends, we will blend assortment of academic enhancing tutorials with exciting and innovative hands-on recreational activities focused on improving the participating students’ school grades and reducing the risks of obesity and asthma.

We will involve residents of public housing and reward them with needed hours of community service to keep their tenancy. Students in the project will also receive incentives and community service credits to apply towards their graduation. Also, qualified past summer youth workers will be hired as part-time workers in the project.

	WHAT WE NEED:

Program materials needed include, computers, projectors and screens, give-away gift items to be distributed during presentations; photocopy machines and papers, printers, storage cabinets, fax machines, ink cartridges, table top and other supplies.

Currently Funds are being developed through campaigns targeting foundations, corporations and our community leaders including our on-going supporters.

Our Gains from Jesus Christ’s resurrection.

This is the power that fuels our zeal for humility - a much needed virtue in our world today. It shapes us daily to engage only in activities that are pleasing to God. It confronts sins in our lives and makes our stubborn wills seek forgiveness with penitential tears whenever we sin.

One of the many gains from the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the power along which His resurrection brings. It began with the eleven apostles and others who had witnessed the resurrected Christ. These previously disillusioned and cowardly folks became so dramatically changed and consummate in their belief that in their ensuing crusade to spread that faith, no torture, nor death threats or even death itself could stall their quest or deter them. For example, Peter who had earlier sworn that he never knew Jesus Christ suddenly became bold. On the spot, he preached and brought over three thousand people to his belief.

It is this power for which Apostle Paul sought and said doubtlessly, “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection”. Thus, he considered everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:10
This is the power that fuels our zeal for humility - a much needed virtue in our world today. It shapes us daily to engage only in activities that are pleasing to God. It confronts sins in our lives and makes our stubborn wills seek forgiveness with penitential tears whenever we sin.

My friends, the same power is available to help you rise above your difficulties and problems or help you to contain them while they last. The power that raised Jesus Christ 2000 years ago from death is available to you today, on this resurrection Sunday. But you first must know God, the source of that power. And then ask him for it in child-like faith. May the joy and victory that Jesus Christ brought in his resurrection abide with you today and always.

Reflecting on forgiveness and love at Christmas season.

And he lives to make intercession for us, transgressors. This is, indeed, forgiveness, wrapped up in love.

As we plan to celebrate Christmas this year, I enjoin you to reflect, prayerfully, on Jesus Christ – the reason for the Christmas. You may have been wronged for many reasons this year, may be in the past years, too. Perhaps, you are still nursing the injuries. Stop and think! Christmas cannot be wholesome if you celebrate it with the hurts. Consider to forgive all who have wronged you and those you have wronged, also. Do so sacrificially and consider Jesus Christ. “Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:3

And he lives to make intercession for us, transgressors. This is, indeed, forgiveness, wrapped up in love. Should this Christmas season not remind you and me to give? Your gifts must include the intangible such as forgiveness, love and time. Therefore, resolve to give, not only to those who can repay you. Give freely to everyone as investments and expect a reward from God. Remain blessed.

How To Humiliate The Goliaths In Our Lives.

Do you have instances of victory over life’s circumstances; do not go for unfamiliar and weighty armor which may not work for you. Like a child, simply trust in God and use the familiar gifts and talents he has given you. He will work miracles through you, use them today as Davidic faith against the goliath before you. With God, the seeming gigantic problem will crumble in humiliation before you.

The army of the Philistine who were Israel’s perpetual enemy had assembled for war against Israel. Goliath - a Philistine giant measuring over nine feet tall came out each day for forty days to mock and challenge the Israelites to fight. At this time Saul was Israel’s king. God already had rejected him as king. He could not, therefore, perhaps, for fear face Goliath. Israel and the whole army were continually terrified by Goliath.

One day Jesse sent David, his youngest son to the battle lines to bring back news of his brothers. David’s brothers loathed his visit for what they saw as his over-zealousness. David attempted to set the record straight, but his brothers would not be dissuaded. How do you handle those who misrepresent your good intentions? You may wish to read 1 Samuel chapter 17 for the full story of how David’s faith triumphed over fear and misrepresentation.

While David was with his angry brothers, he heard Goliath’s boastful defiance and insults which he hurled against Israel. Also, he noticed the fear of the men of Israel and enquired, "Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of God?"

Moved with righteous rage, confidence and implicit trust in the supreme power of God which he had previously experienced, David volunteered to fight Goliath. It took some persuasion, notwithstanding, before King Saul finally agreed to let David fight against the giant. David attempted to put on King Saul’s armor, which he offered him, but it was too heavy for him. So, dressed in his simple tunic, carrying his shepherd's staff, slingshot and a pouch full of stones, David approached Goliath.

Seeing his size, the giant cursed at David, launching threats and insults. But David countered with faith in God, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied ... today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air ... and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel ... it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give all of you into our hands."

David simply reached into his bag. He slung one of his stones at Goliath's head, and with God, the stone found a hole in Goliath's armor. Miraculously, it sank into the giant's forehead and he fell, face down on the ground. David then took Goliath's sword, killed him and then cut off his head.

What a triumph? When the giant criticized, insulted and threatened, David didn't stop or even waver. Everyone else got drowned in fear, but David ran to the battle. He knew that action needed to be taken. He was sure that God was with him. So he did the right thing in spite of discouraging insults, fearful threats and empty arrogance. Only God's opinion mattered to David. This is a lesson for us all.

“He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.”

I had been away on a very long overseas trip, and I am glad to resume my weekly article. I am sorry for the break. This week I want us to reflect on the love of God. Stop and think! It is measureless and incomparably strong.

With this in mind, let us reflect on Jesus' healing of a man who was blind from birth. You can read the full story in the gospel of John 9. Jesus had healed a blind man on a Sabbath day. Thus, he supposedly violated the law that forbid men to work on the Sabbath day and was in trouble with the religious leaders of his day. They sought to bring him to justice, as well as the man he had healed including the parents of the man. The past suffering and hopelessness of this man who had been blind from birth mattered nothing to the religious leaders. His parents too, who disassociated from their son and urged him to defend himself against the healing and would not share in his punishment, selfishly showed little concern in his improved condition.

But God’s love is vast and selfless. We have piles of witnesses against us for a deliberate breach of his laws. Ideally, we should expect judgment of raging fire for our offenses. We understand that the Law of Moses with two or three witnesses condemned to death without mercy anyone who rejected it. But God, who is rich in mercy, has reconciled us - law breakers -to himself. “He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2:14 . Now we have an open door of forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Through him, we only need to enter into God’s house of love, confess our sins and obtain free forgiveness forever. We may never know the import of this stunning love and sacrificial act of mercy for guilty sinners until we meet Jesus face-to-face in heaven.

Dear reader, are your sins covered? It matters very little if you attend church regularly and do not know for certain that if you were to die today you will not be separated from God forever. Tomorrow is not ours.

The secret behind the prevailing prayer: knowing God.

God is the greatest. And little children would say: “He is a very, very big God.” Yes, He is, and beyond comparison in all aspects. He is consummately mighty, and enormous in wisdom and understanding.

“God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.” 1 Timothy 6:16. (NIV)

Dear reader, this same God in all His vastness, craves our fellowship and wants to release to us everything He has in Him for us. I mean everything! My friend may be you are, currently, having difficulties with the affairs of this life, such difficulties that might even cause you to doubt the very existence of God. Regardless of your bane or station in life, it is no secret that God loves you; again it is no secret that He does. His gave His son to die in your stead. That is love!

THE PROBLEM - yours and mine - is that we do not know Him. How can we confide in and talk with one whom we do not know? Parents advise their children against talking with strangers. Not knowing God is the big gulf, and until this is removed, we are bound to continue in penury amidst the huge wealth that is ours in God. He is saying to you and me: “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.” John 10:14.

Do you know God? It is written of Him: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10. Do you have abundant life? Yes, we can. “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue”. 2 Peter 1:3. Do you have “all things that pertain unto life?” I believe you do not. But the bible says, in knowing God, we can have all things. And “the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” Daniel 11:32.

When you and I truly know God, we will be closer drawn to Him and will be able to talk to Him at anytime in prayer about anything. And “He will perfect all that concern you” and me. The confidence that God in all His transcending power, is our father and we are His children, is so strong and reassuring that we need NOW to go all out and spread our needs on the altar of prayer assured that He is for us in whatever situation we need His help.

God, “for whom all things are; in whom all things consist and depend; one who owns the world in all its fullness is our father, and He sincerely loves us . “If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?” Luke 11:11.

STOP AND THINK! When you and I truly know God, we will be closer drawn to Him and will be able to talk to Him about anything in prayer. And “He will perfect all that concern you” and me. The confidence that God in all His transcending power, is our father and we are His children, is so strong and reassuring that we need NOW to go all out and spread our needs on the altar of prayer assured that He can handle whatever situation we need His help. So, let's dig a little deeper in knowing GOD through HIS WORD - THE BIBLE. WE MUST TRUST WHAT HE SAYS IN HIS WORD. THIS IS THE FIRST STEP, IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. Emaeyak Ekanem

Dear friend, do you have goals that you want to attain this year? Let us together launch into the year with renewed determination to accomplish them. Here are steps that we must take: First, we need to be unselfish. Our goals should align with God’s purpose for us. Second, we have to repose implicit faith in God, that in His dominion, He has empowered us to succeed because we are His heirs through Christ. We know that GOD, who owns all things, and in whom are all things, in “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3 . What a delight! We are empowered children of God.

No matter the magnitude of our needs, let us tell God what they are and rest them prayerfully on Him. Let us profess without wavering that those needs are met. We are not lying. This is what God says we must do. He will demolish every obstacle that sets itself up against our goals, and carefully fulfill our desires. Nothing in all creation can interfere with the plan of God for us this year. Be blessed.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! May the good Lord bless you.

The year 2012 is unique because its first day is the Lord’s Day of REST. It is thus; very significant and apparent that God is encouraging us to rest all our affairs on Him through His Word this year.

"Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them”. Joshua 1:6

In this passage, God swayed Joshua’s noticeable fear of his new assignment by urging him to rest on His Word. And he did. God kept His Word and Joshua successfully led the Israelite into the Promised Land.

Dear friend, whatever your goal for 2012, be strong and realize that God cannot lie. He will guide and lead you to your “journey’s end”. Only rest your plans this year on Him. Trust His power to enable you accomplish them. All year long, you too, like Apostle Paul, should confidently say: “I can do everything through him who gives me strength”. Philippians 4:13

Dear reader, stop and think! How glorious it was for Mary to have her firstborn, a son. To put Him in a manger was, expectedly, very disappointing. But the only choice she and her husband had was the manger. Perhaps, you too, must now contain your seemingly degrading circumstance because you have no other choice. Consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Hebrews 3:1, less you become weary and loose heart. Today, that same Jesus, “the stone that the builders rejected has become the head of the corner”. In cosmic history, He remains the most worshiped and exalted and will stay incomparably so through all eternity. Praise God! In Him, we live, move and have our being. He is our Life – earthy and heavenly; He is our Peace, our Health and Our Wealth. Do you have room in your life for Jesus Christ?

A lesson in kindness: He bandaged those wounds, pouring on oil and wine.

Jesus commended a widow who donated two small coins, while wealthy people gave more. Jesus told his disciples that the seemingly insignificant sacrifices of the poor meant more to Him than the exaggerated donations of the rich.

In Luke 10:25-37, Jesus told a story in which he recounted how a traveler, who had been beaten, robbed and left half dead, was assisted by a stranger. In the story He showed us the different aspects of kindness: sacrifice, commitment, availability, selflessness, humility and more.

The man in our story was unafraid of personal risk in showing kindness. Unknown to the victim or known by him, the Good Samaritan was moved with compassion for the human he saw lying helpless by the roadside. As he unhesitatingly plunged into action, see the progression of his service: First, he went to him. Thus, he saw the extent of his wounds. Next, he bandaged those wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then, he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.

The Good Samaritan employed every needed instruments of care within his means to help the abandoned man. Either in cash or kind, Jesus showed us how the Good Samaritan personalized his care of the man and helped him within his resource. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:18

God appreciates when our gifts are offered from our hearts, regardless of the gift’s size. In another instance, Jesus commended a widow who donated two small coins, while wealthy people gave more. Jesus told his disciples that the seemingly insignificant sacrifices of the poor mean more to Him than the exaggerated donations of the rich.

God urged that we show kindness and exemplified true kindness in sending Jesus Christ, His only son into the world to die for sinners’ salvation. The Scripture says: “the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit”. Titus 3:4-5

If you see your brother standing by the road
With a heavy load from the seeds he's sowed
And if you see your sister falling by the way
Just stop and stay you're going the wrong way

You got to try a little kindness
Yes show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you'll overlook the blindness
However, our kindness must “exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees.” This implies that we must take time to be kind.

This month, we are running a series of studies on the teaching of Jesus Christ on "LIGHT." We have adopted “SHINE ON” as our theme.

Thus, for several Sunday beginning next week, by His grace, we will see how kindness can radiate light in the dark corners of the world around us.

If you have no church home, and you reside in New York City, the Bronx, particularly, even if you have a church home, you may wish to visit and join us as we consider this illuminating truth. Our Sunday worship service starts at 12:30 p.m. promptly.

	SYNOPSIS

“We should be kind to all men because it is morally right to do so as humans. Also, it is required that we do acts of kindness in all situations as much as is possible, whether great or small. However, our kindness must “exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees.” Following is how:

In Luke 10:25-37, Jesus told a story in which he recounted how a traveler, who had been beaten, robbed and left half dead, was assisted by a stranger. In the story He showed us the different aspect of kindness: sacrifice, commitment, availability, selflessness, humility.

Overcoming Fear With Faith

Therefore, faith that will transcend fear is the faith which is centered in God through Jesus Christ. This faith must be based on knowledge of God’s perfect character and should be assured that God possesses in all fullness the attributes of love, knowledge, justice, mercy, unchangeableness, and power that we need, regardless of what we face or come up against. “We live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 . This is the faith that liberates us from our ever-tormenting fears. It grants us boldness and access into the blessings that God has in store for us.

In our series of messages on overcoming fear with faith, just ended, we have discussed: (a) Understanding fear and faith (b) Episodes of fear and faith (c) The triumph and reward of faith and (d) Acquiring faith and dispelling fear. I want to briefly share a few points from the messages with you.

The bible has concluded that without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him (God) must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6 . The bible further records: “The Just shall live by faith”. Romans 1:17 .

There is an application of faith in all spheres of our lives. From buying food items in the supermarket to flying in the plane, faith is at work. When we make travel plans, for instance; we hope to arrive at our destinations because we trust in the ability of whatever means of transportation is available to take us there.

It is, thus, fundamentally, important that we understand what faith is. It is to hope for things which are not seen, and to be assured that we have them. (Hebrews 11:1 ) God must and should be the focus of our faith. Therefore, faith that will transcend fear is the faith which is centered in God through Jesus Christ. This faith must be based on God’s perfect character. We must be assured that God possesses in all fullness the attributes of love, knowledge, justice, mercy, unchangeableness, and power that we need, regardless of what we face or come up against. “We live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 . This is the faith that liberates us from our ever-tormenting fears. It grants us boldness and access into the blessings that God has in store for us.

Also, this faith knows and professes that God wholly and habitually loves us. It assures us that God in his love will never permit a seemingly evil incident against us, unless it is intended to lift him up, and ultimately bless us. (Consider the triumphs of faith in the stories of Job, Daniel, Lazarus, and Hannah, etc).

God says: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3 . “But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children-“Psalms 103:17 . “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” 1 John 4:10 . Like a child, we can place our confidence in God without reservation to meet our needs. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him (God) who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3

“Everything we need for life and godliness” include job, husband, wife, children, car, house, food, deliverance from evil operation, salvation from sin, (you name it) and, ultimately, heaven. True faith in Jesus Christ will move us to some physical and mental action and carries an assurance that what we hoped for is fulfilled because of the resourcefulness of God who has made the promise.

Have you observed how a child learns to walk? First he learns from those around him how to walk. Then he tries to walk (falling down often). His loving parents encourage him to keep trying, until he knows how to walk. Acquiring perfect faith and dispelling fear is just the same. We must hear God’s word and act on it, like a child. God is our rod, staff, rock, comfort, guide, shield, might etc. Start today to remind yourself that you are special. “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.” Isaiah 49:15 . You are fenced up by God’s angelic host and you are the apple of God’s eyes.

For your focus on faith to be on God, you must have a correct idea of his character, his perfections, and his attributes. Know that he created the world – all things. His power is divine and all-assailing. All things exist in him and for him. “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. “2 Corinthians 1:20. You must have implicit faith in his word for “… thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” Psalms 138:2 . Thus, like a child, you must have confidence in him and should without reservation believe that he will do what he has promised. “God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” Numbers 23:19 .

You must be convinced of the effectiveness and the power of his word to meet your needs. Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD, and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?” Jeremiah 23:29 . By his word he can meet all your needs. With his word, deliverance from evil oppression is achieved; he can impute you with righteousness and give you power to live daily for him, “for the word of God is living and active; it is sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12.

Therefore, dear reader, you can afford to rest all your life’s affairs on God who has said: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10. “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 “I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates-all the Hittite country-to the Great Sea on the west. No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. "Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."I will not fail you or abandon you.” Joshua 1:3-9. “For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13.

But you must pray and hands off your cares on him today!

The creative power of God is never in doubt. Be it in the creation of the world when “he spoke it into existence.” His creative provision made a dry passage way in the Red Sea for the Israelites in their journey to the Canaan land. He availed and quenched the rage of a blazing furnace, and spared the lives of Shadrack, Meshach, and Abed-nego of old.

Have your faith and principles ever been confronted or challenged? But you must pray and hands off your cares on him today!

His superseding authority and ever-increasing power that created miracles for Shadrack, Meshach, and Abed-nego will also work today for you. These men would not dishonor the commandment of God in Ex. 20.5 and bow to an image of king Nebuchadnezzar, despite the apparent certainty of being thrown into a blazing furnace.

The world’s system may be fundamentally broke and defective in guiding fathers; we urge you to return to the manual of good fatherhood - the bible, and faithfully trust that God will perfect all his Word concerning you as you lead your homes. HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! Emaeyak Ekanem

Being in partnership with the Holy Spirit!

We must enjoy all the benefits that the Holy Spirit freely gives out and continually nurture our relationship with him through prayer and constant bible reading. He will teach us the ways of God and faithfully guide us to obey them.

Today is Pentecost Sunday when we remember the occasion that the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles of Jesus Christ. They were gathered in the Upper Room at Jerusalem as Jesus Christ had instructed. We find this account in Acts of the Apostles 2:1-11.

The Spirit of God in a form of a strong wind filled the entire house. And like the tongues of fire, he rested on each one of them. Filled with the Spirit, the apostles started to speak in different tongues. This experience dramatically changed their lives and revolutionized the work Jesus had committed to them prior to his ascension. Power, energy, boldness and absolute dependence on God ensued. Consequently, thousands of souls were saved and added to the church and many whose lives were distressed with diseases were delivered. Jesus had earlier said” I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these” John 14:12 . This was fulfilled in the apostles’ ministries.

Basically, the Holy Spirit takes the things of God and carefully explains them to us. He conditions our hearts to perform the work of God with a great zeal and focuses on glorifying Jesus Christ in our lives. All the recorded deeds that the apostles accomplished in the early church were possible because the Holy Spirit were in them dispensing his strength as they needed. And he is ever present today for you and me in all areas. When we pray for example, he helps us to pray and ably presents our needs to God. Romans 8:26 Jesus said “the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you”. John 14:26 .

We must enjoy all the benefits that the Holy Spirit freely gives out and continually nurture our relationship with him through prayer and constant bible reading. He will teach us the ways of God and faithfully guide us to obey them. But we must be willing to listen as he will never compel us. Dear friend may the Pentecostal power and all the ensuing miracles rest on you today and always as you choose to obey God.
