This was a household that organized a feast and celebrated it at no time. Yet, typical of most of us, the prodigal son was dissatisfied with life in his home. He desired a greener life outside.
Among the Christians, the parable of the prodigal son is a familiar story. It tells of the father who forgave his son without condition. His son had squandered his living with prostitutes and had nothing left with which to sustain himself in a far away country. “When he came to himself” he made up his mind to return home to his father, who ran to embrace him half way before he could even arrive at home to ask for forgiveness.
My discourse today on the prodigal son will focus on his life before he became prodigal. He was from a settled home where everyone including his father’s hired servants had more than enough to eat. The father could afford the fattest calf to kill in celebrating his return. In this home there was “the best” robe as well as a ring and sandals. This was a household that organized a feast and celebrated it at no time.

The Scriptures say: “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” Proverbs 14:12 “People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.” 1 Timothy 6:6 .

Are you now in a situation that you feel you cannot hold onto any further? My friend, do not quit. Wait on God, and be patient. God knows you better and can ably handle all of your life’s difficulties. It could be that the situation concerns your career, or your home. Perhaps, your job is less than satisfactory and you feel it is time to go.
Remember the Christian scale on which you must weigh all your actions and decisions: “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Although the prodigal son obeyed his sinful desires and almost met his ruin and destruction, he had a second chance. He thus, was able to repent and was forgiven. His story ended happily. Sadly today, a lot of people have not had and never will have a second chance for repentance and forgiveness. Do not rush into decisions that will cause you pain and sorrows thereafter or even eternal separation from God. Be blessed. Emaeyak Ekanem
