Recently, Christ Disciples International Ministries Inc., (CDIM) completed its annual community health project. This year we collaborated with the United States Environmental Protection Agency, New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, New York City Department of Health, SoBRO, The Children Aid Society and Inspirational Gospel Assembly Inc. For seven weeks, young people recruited from the Bronx were trained and supervised to implement assortment of activities that raised awareness of the risk factors for obesity.
The campaign culminated with a health fair. Greater than 1,996 individuals from the Bronx participated in the campaign. From the pre and post workshops’ questionnaires which we administered to participants, 95% or 1896 of respondents reported greater awareness of nutrition and the effectiveness of exercise in combating obesity, and indicated a readiness for habits and lifestyle changes.
We greatly applaud and acknowledge the supports of our board members, the involvement in cash and kind of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, New York City Human Resources Administration, the United Way of New York City, Food Bank for the City of New York, New York City Department of Health, SoBRO, The Children Aid Society and Inspirational Gospel Assembly Inc, including our workers, volunteers and all the young people who tirelessly committed their efforts and talents for the project's huge success.
