The Authority Of Jesus Christ
Do you or anyone you know have supreme authority? You do not. No one in this world has such authority. Not even President Bush, even though, politically, he is perceived the most powerful man in our world today. See his limitations: he has the Congress, which must approve or disapprove certain policies before he acts on them. Even on cases that he is authorized to act without the authority of the Congress, he is still accountable to American people and cannot operate independently. Recently, he is threatening to veto the bill passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate if the bill gets to him with a timeline for the withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. Had he the supreme authority, he would act unquestionably in this and all situations. Sadly, he can not, and such is our predicament as human.
It is not so with Jesus Christ. He says of himself: "... All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” Mathew 28:18. In another place, he stated plainly: "... the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins." Mark 2:10. Now let's face it; what man has all power in heaven and earth and can forgive sin? Jesus said he could and we see infallible proofs all through the bible. He controls all contradictory comic elements and he created them. So in him, all things consist. Colossians 1:15-16. Logically, the creature cannot be greater than the creator. Thus, he sustains all things by his power and they must act at his commands.
A clear evidence of his power and lordship is seen in his precise knowledge of future events. We read in Mathew 21:1-11 that he told his disciples in arithmetical certainty where they would see a colt and an ass. He instructed them on what they should say to the colt owner who would oppose them for ejecting the colt for his use. His disciples had no problem with the man because Jesus foreknew his heart and had already settled his objections before his disciples met him. Jesus had neither colt nor ass, but it was impossible for him to suffer any lack. He caused all things to work to his favor. He can do the same for you. But will you be willing to “go” at his command. His disciples obeyed and were not confounded. Nothing could stand against Jesus’ order. And nothing can stand against his plans for you. Jesus alone is all-knowing; he owns the earth and the fullness of it. He dearly loves you. Won't you commit your life to him if you already have not done so, and be rest assured that in this unstable and unfaithful world there is a powerful friend with whom you can partner for a fulfilled existence?
