While we await the return of Jesus Christ
Posted on Mon, Nov 17, 2008
It is advantageous therefore, that while awaiting the return of Jesus Christ, you should watch against carelessness to pray. The bible says that you should pray without ceasing. Prayer draws you closer to God and allows you to depend on Him for direction as you draw the strength you need daily from His inexhaustible power house.
Today’s world events doubtlessly attest to the certain and soon return of Jesus Christ. As those awaiting this glorious return of our Lord, the scripture urges us to watch since we “know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh” Mathew 25:12. Also, Jesus said “Occupy till I come” Luke 19:13 While you await the return of Jesus Christ, with what are you occupied?
Having been saved from eternal damnation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, God has primarily reconciled you to Himself, and “hath given to us the ministry of reconciliations” 2 Corinthians 5:18. You are to daily reconcile men to God in whatever you do. Wherever you may be, you are to radiate “an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well-pleasing to God” Philippians 4:18 You are to occupy until He returns with the good works of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, for which “God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” Ephesians 2:10. Start today with the persons next to you and show them the love of God. Forgive those who have wronged or taken undue advantage of you. Pray for them.
By so doing, you will be laying for yourselves “treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal” Matthew 6:20. Acquiring the goods of this world should not be your sole preoccupation and concern; if self is the beginning and the ending of your achievements, then you can be certain that you are neglecting your Christian and real duties. Thus, you risk becoming an unprofitable servant who would be cast into outer darkness where “there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth” Matthew 25:36
Many believers are subtly deluded by the devil with fast-fading materialism. They have been, sadly, lured from the important vocation of reconciling men to Jesus Christ to which they were called. Having been so entangled and saddled, they do not have the time to stop and think that they are (God’s) workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works”. Jesus said: “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” Luke 12:15 `
In addition, while awaiting the return of Jesus Christ, it is expedient that you study the word of God daily and observe to do what the word says: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8
Furthermore, it pays to watch against the quick flash of your eyes and thoughts at foolish things, which can open you up for the devil’s attack. He is vigilant and earnestly looking for your unguarded moments. If you allow him an opening any way in your life, he will rush vicious attacks. Therefore, you are warned to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” 1 Peter 5:8
Finally, you should be motivated by the hope that at any moment, you can leave this sin-sick world to a better home in heaven to be forever with Jesus Christ who truly loves you. This motivating hope is as well, ecclesiastically purifying in its strength. The Apostle John wrote, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God …Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is….And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” 1 John 3:1-3 STOP AND THINK.
